Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Victims of Violence.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

31 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he expects to receive a report on the victims of violence from the former Tánaiste, Mr. John Wilson; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27840/98]

I have been informed by the Victims Commissioner, Mr. John Wilson, that he hopes to be in a position to submit a report around the end of this month.

The Deputy will recall that at the outset of his work in July last, Mr. Wilson stated that he felt it was important that all victims get a chance to be heard and that he did not wish to compromise the thoroughness of the consultative process by setting a fixed target date for making his report.

The commissioner has informed me that victims are still coming forward and that, in line with his initial commitment, it is his intention to meet those who wish to meet him, in advance of submitting his report.
