Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

353 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on proposals for the future use of the Iveagh Tennis Court donated to the Irish nation in 1939; and the way in which it is proposed to maintain and adhere to its donor's wishes at that time. [5097/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 327 of 24 Samhain 1998 in which I outlined my position on the proposed conversion of the building in question from its current use by UCD as an engineering laboratory for use as a small recital hall for the National Concert Hall.

From the information available to me, the proposed use does not contradict the conditions attached by the donor of the property. Futhermore, I understand that the property has not been used for the purposes of playing tennis for over half a century.
