Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Status.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

389 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application for disadvantaged status has been received from St. Mary's secondary school, Holy Faith Convent, Glasnevin, Dublin 11; the criteria under which this application will be evaluated; and when a decision will be made on the application. [5063/99]

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

418 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if favourable consideration will be given to St. Mary's secondary school, Holy Faith Convent, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, which has applied for disadvantaged status and meets all the necessary criteria; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5316/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 389 and 418 together.

St. Mary's secondary school, Holy Faith Convent, Glasnevin, Dublin 11 has applied to my Department for disadvantaged status.

In the current school year, of the total of 762 schools at second level, 190 schools have been allocated disadvantaged posts and qualify for disadvantaged status on that basis.

While I have no proposals at present for designating further schools as disadvantaged, I can assure the Deputies that the position of St. Mary's, Glasnevin will receive full consideration in the context of any future review of this scheme.
