Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

278 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the replies to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 774 of 27 January 1999 and 259 of 9 February 1999, his attention has been drawn to the serious flooding caused in April 1998 at Hazelhatch, Celbridge, County Kildare; if his Department is responsible for improving the water carrying capacity of the Shinkeen stream; the measures, if any, he will take to eliminate flooding in this area; when finance will be provided in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4898/99]

Shinkeen stream is not part of any scheme maintainable by the Office of Public Works. Accordingly it does not have responsibility for improving the water carrying capacity of the Shinkeen stream. However, I have asked the engineering services division of the Office of Public Works to investigate the causes of the flooding and provide me with a report.
