Ceist:

64 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the discussions, if any, he has had with processors to pass on to the consumer the current low price which farmers are receiving for their beef; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5257/99]

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh):

It is my view that lower producer prices should be reflected at the retail level and this will be of benefit to the consumers. I have been in touch on this matter with the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs which has responsibility for market competition.
