Ceist:

323 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 199 of 10 February 1999 and 138 of 18 February 1999, the proposed Education and Training (Qualifications) Bill will provide for delegated authority for Waterford Institute of Technology to initiate and validate its own degrees. The Education and Training (Qualifications) Bill will include provisions to allow the delegation of authority, inter alia, to the Institutes of Technology, to make awards. The Deputy will be aware that no statutory procedure for such delegation exists currently. I hope to be in a position to publish the Bill very shortly.
