Vol. 501 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Inspectors.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

138 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when she will appoint health and safety officers to County Mayo. [5531/99]

The appointment of health and safety inspectors and the allocation to them of specific duties is a matter for the Health and Safety Authority, which is the statutory body with day-to-day responsibility for the promotion of occupational safety and health and the enforcement of relevant statutory provisions in this area.

In my reply to Question No. 4337/99 on 16 February 1999 I provided him with information as to the location of the Authority's regional offices which serve the western region and the numbers of inspectors operating from those offices.
