Vol. 501 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Staff.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

42 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a review of age limits for all local authority officer posts has taken palace; if so, the changes, if any, being made in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3919/99]

Arising from the enactment of the Employment Equality Act, 1998, a review of age limits for officer posts in the local authority service has been carried out and an order has now been made amending the qualifications for offices in relation to which the Minister for the Environment and Local Government is the appropriate Minister. This order sets 65 as the upper age limit for appointment to all officer posts and removes lower age limits. The order came into operation on 1 March 1999.
