156 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to commitments made at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Science on 4 December 2001, he will provide the list of 800 plus applications for major capital works in schools which are with his Department; the stage at which each application is at; the way in which he intends to deal with this level of outstanding work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am arranging to have a list of major school building projects prepared for forwarding to the Deputy.

157 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the extension to St. Colmcille's national school, Westport, County Mayo; and when funding will be sanctioned for these works. [32062/01]

An application has been received for capital funding in respect of a proposed project at St. Colmcille's national school, Westport, County Mayo. Decisions on the appointment of design teams in respect of individual projects will be taken in the light of the recent allocation for primary school buildings in last week's budget and my Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as possible.

158 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the proposed new building for Carrowkennedy national school, Westport, County Mayo; and when funding will be sanctioned for these works. [32063/01]

Architectural planning of the provision of a new school at Carrowkennedy, Westport, County Mayo, is under way. It is not possible at this stage to state exactly when the project will go on site.

159 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding plans to carry out works on Ardagh national school, Crossmolina, County Mayo; and when funding will be sanctioned for these works. [32064/01]

Architectural planning in respect of a building project at Ardagh national school, Crossmolina, County Mayo is nearing completion. It is not possible at this stage to state exactly when the project will go on site.

161 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when funding will be sanctioned for the extension to Scoil Íosa, Abbeyquarter, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo. [32066/01]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): The accommodation needs of this school are being reviewed in my Department. As part of this review the school's current and projected enrolments and staffing levels are being considered. Together with an inspector's report, this process involves a detailed analysis of enrolment and demographic trends in the general area and of the capacity of existing schools to meet demand. A report in the matter is now to hand and a decision on the school's long-term accommodation requirements will be made and notified to the board of management as soon as possible.

162 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding a site being selected by the Office of Public Works for Gaelscoil na Cruaiche, Westport, County Mayo; and when a decision will be made on site selection. [32067/01]

The property management section of the Office of Public Works has been asked to report on the possibility of acquiring a site for Gaelscoil na Cruaiche, Westport, County Mayo. When this report has been received and considered, the matter will be progressed further. Decisions relating to the timing of the acquisition of a site will be taken in the light of the recent allocation for primary school buildings in last week's budget.

Decisions on the appointment of design teams in respect of individual projects will be taken in the light of the recent allocation for primary school buildings in last week's budget and my Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as possible.

164 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when the extension to St. Columba's national school, Inishturk Island, County Mayo, will be approved. [32069/01]

St. Columba's national school, which has an enrolment of ten pupils this year, is the only school on Inishturk Island. The accommodation needs of this school are being reviewed in my Department. As part of this review, the school's current and projected enrolments, staffing levels, and demographic trends will be considered. A decision on the school's immediate and long-term accommodation requirements will be made and notified to the board of management as soon as possible.
