Vol. 501 No. 4

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Seán Power

Ceist:

74 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence if he has satisfied himself that he will get the best deal by selling the Army barracks by public tender; and when they will be sold. [6431/99]

I am satisfied that the public tender process is one of the most appropriate and effective methods for the disposal of properties in public ownership.

Two of the barrack properties, Castleblayney and Fermoy, have already been offered for sale by public tender and the tenders which were received by the closing date of 19 February 1999 are currently being evaluated. Magee Barracks, Kildare, Devoy Barracks, Naas, and Murphy Barracks, Ballincollig, will be placed on the market as soon as is practicable.

It will not be possible to evacuate Clancy Barracks in the short-term but it will be disposed of following the transfer of storage facilities which are located there to the Curragh Camp.
