Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

172 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the proposals, if any, he has to reform or change the existing milk quota temporary leasing regime; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6762/99]

The detailed arrangements for the operation of the 1999-2000 temporary leasing scheme have not yet been decided.

The Milk Quota Review Group will meet shortly to discuss all aspects of the operation of the milk quota regime in Ireland with a view to making recommendations to me on the criteria which should apply to the 1999-2000 scheme.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

173 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has received a request for suckler cow quota from a person (details provided) in County Cork; if so, his entitlement in this regard; the amount of suckler cow quota available for distribution; and the amount allocated to each category. [6763/99]

The person named has applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the 1999 national reserve. He applied under category C which is confined to farmers who do not qualify under the priority categories A and B.

There are only 3,500 premium rights available for distribution from the reserve, and all of these will be allocated to eligible farmers in the priority categories A and B.

There is not sufficient quota in the reserve to allow an allocation to be made to the person named.

It is expected that 35 applicants in category A will receive 300 premium rights and that 600 applicants in category B will receive 3,200 premium rights.
