Vol. 502 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Offices.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

76 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the leasing arrangements, if any, on the building where it is proposed to house the Equality Authority designate and the Office of the Director of Equality Investigations; when they will begin their operations there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7200/99]

The Office of Public Works is arranging a 25 year lease of a building in Clonmel Street, off Harcourt Street to house the Equality Authority and the office of the Director of Equality Investigations. Builders are on site at present and are expected to finish later this month. The premises will then be fitted out as two separate self-contained offices, one for the equality authority and one for the office of director of equality investigations.

The expectation is that the premises will be ready for occupation mid-year to allow time for the build up of the new organisations, their staff and other resources in advance of the 1 September 1999 target date for implementation of the Act.
