95 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 51 of 4 February 1999 the progress on the proposed training programme for certain civil servants dealing with minority groups; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7199/99]
In my reply to the parliamentary question referred to by the Deputy, I stated that in July 1998, I established a National Consultative Committee on Racism and lnterculturalism. Part of that committee's work programme for 1999 included anti-racism training for certain civil servants dealing with minority groups. The committee has informed me that, at present, it is delivering anti-racism training to 60 training officers of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs involved in the training of frontline staff members of that Department in its various offices throughout the country. In addition, the consultative committee is developing a set of guidelines for training officers in other Departments, including my Department, and outside training agencies which are considering undertaking anti-racism training. These guidelines will encourage good practice among groups delivering such training.
