Vol. 502 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Allowances.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

119 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if a change in tax rules has been made in recent years whereby a widow lost the right to retain the full married allowance in the year of bereavement for the rest of the tax year; and, if so, when this change occurred. [8506/99]

The tax treatment of widowed persons in the year of bereavement has not changed in recent years. Widowed persons retain the right to the married person's allowance and double rate bands for the remainder of the tax year in which the bereavement occurs.
