Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Hayes – the response of the Department of the Environment and Local Government to the recommendations contained in the report of the working group on security of tenure and the decision to establish a commission to analyse policy in this area; (2) Deputy Gormley – the crisis in Kosovo and the ongoing NATO airstrikes in Yugoslavia and the need for the Government to condemn these breaches of international law; (3) Deputy Haughey – the need to discuss the transfer of traffic wardens from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform to Dublin Corporation. (4) Deputy Jim Higgins – the reason the Garda were not notified of an application for a suspension of the remainder of sentence in respect of a defendant (details supplied) who had served only one year of a four year prison sentence for a conviction for dangerous driving with excess alcohol causing the death of a young mother; (5) Deputy Allen – the long delay in bringing to trial, due to a shortage of judges at the Central Criminal Court, those charged with the murder of a person (details supplied) who was found dead with head injuries in Cork City on 20 May 1997; (6) Deputy Finucane – the provision of extra classrooms and other facilities at the national fisheries training centre at Greencastle, County Donegal; (7) Deputy Howlin – the circumstances surrounding the Circuit Court decision to suspend the final three years of a four year sentence handed down to an individual convicted of dangerous driving causing death; (8) Deputy Rabbitte – the subvention by the Exchequer of the media monitoring unit in the Government Information Service; (9) Deputy Kenny – the provision of a new Garda station in Ballinrobe, County Mayo and the level of crime in the area; (10) Deputy Shatter – the treatment by the Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform of traffic wardens working in the Dublin area.

The matters raised by Deputies Rabbitte, Jim Higgins, Howlin and Kenny have been selected for discussion.
