Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

282 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding provision of a new Garda station for Ballinrobe in County Mayo; the position regarding this proposal on the priority list for Garda stations; if a site has been finalised; if the type and plan of Garda station has been agreed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10256/99]

The Garda station at Ballinrobe is operating from a rented building at present. It is proposed to build a new area headquarters on the site of the old garda station and married quarters both of which are vacant at present. A brief of requirements has been forwarded by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform to the Office of Public Works and a sketch scheme will be prepared when all of the projects which have been accorded higher priority by the Department and the Garda authorities have been addressed.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

283 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the position in relation to the provision of the proposed new Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare; the degree to which agreement has been reached in relation to precise location and scale; when work will commence on the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10307/99]

Planning for the Garda station element of the proposed joint development will be undertaken when proposals for the other elements have been progressed by Kildare County Council.
