Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Stamp Duty.

John Browne

Ceist:

284 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Finance the reason a high rate of stamp duty tax was charged to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford by the Revenue Commissioners; and if investigations will be made into the matter with a view to granting a reduction on the basis that the farm was transferred to a son. [7980/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that a 50 per cent reduction in the rate of stamp duty is applicable in this case as the property in question is a transfer from father to son. I am further informed that young trained farmer relief does not arise and cannot be allowed because the person in question did not hold the requisite qualifications for such relief at the date the instrument of transfer was executed. The commissioners do not have discretion in this regard.
