Written Answers. - UN Year of the Elderly.
On the tax side, I exempted 15,000 persons aged 65 and over from income tax with effect from 6 April 1999 through the substantial increases in tax exemption limits for the elderly in my 1999 budget. I also relaxed the conditions under which tax relief is available for those paying for the employment of a carer in the home.
On the expenditure side, I agreed to other measures, details of which will be given by the relevant Minister.
