Ceist:447 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if the recently announced grants scheme for supply of electricity to islands will apply to inhabited in-shore islands. [9741/99]
Written Answers. - Electricity Supply.
On 9 December 1998 I provided a grant of £540,338 from my Department to the ESB towards the provision of electricity on the following islands:–
Inislyre, County Mayo
Insegort, County Mayo
Inis Treabhair, County Galway
Inis Bearacháin, County Galway
Inse Ghainimh, County Galway
Inis Fraoigh, County Donegal
Inis Bó Finne, County Donegal
Coney Island, County Sligo
A grant of £75,000 was also approved for the necessary foreshore licences. This funding was allocated for the specific purpose of providing electricity services only on the above mentioned islands. On the information available to me this will provide electricity supply to all remaining in-shore islands with permanent inhabitants that do not have same.
