Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

532 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to remedial provision for Scoil Eoghlan, Moville, County Donegal; the adequacy of this provision in view of the size of the school and disadvantaged backgrounds of many of the students; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9600/99]

The school to which the Deputy refers currently has the services of a remedial teacher which it shares with an adjacent school.

I am aware of the case made by the school for an increased level of service, having regard to the number of pupils involved and their particular needs. However, my priority at present is to utilise available resources to extend the remedial teacher service to those schools which currently have no such service.

In the event of additional remedial teacher posts becoming available to improve existing remedial services, I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school to which she refers will be fully considered.
