Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Admissions.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

539 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will fund a survey to be organised by the Donnycarney Community Forum, Dublin 5 to establish the reason there has been a fall in admissions to our Lady of Consolation senior girls primary school, our Lady of Consolation junior girls primary school and Scoil Chiarain CBS primary school, Donnycarney, Dublin 9; the reason parents are sending their children to schools outside the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9638/99]

The position is that national schools in many parts of the country are experiencing increases or declines in their enrolments for a variety of reasons.

Rather than seeking to establish the reasons for such increases or declines in each case, my responsibility as Minister for Education and Science is to ensure that there is sufficient school accommodation in any given area to cater for the children residing in that area.
