Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Company Closures.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

144 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the position regarding a company (details supplied) in County Mayo; if the receiver has sold the property; if a management buy out was successful; and the assistance, if any, she has given to these employees in trying to resolve the matter. [9964/99]

Enterprise Ireland has been monitoring the situation arising from the closure of Allfresh Bakeries Ltd. They have advised me that many of the workers made redundant when Allfresh Bakeries Ltd. ceased operations at the end of 1998 have already found employment.

I am also advised by Enterprise Ireland that the receiver has sold the plant and equipment to a UK company and plans to sell the premises of 32,000 sq. ft. as soon as possible.

Enterprise Ireland was in contact with former workers at Allfresh Bakeries Ltd who had expressed an interest in starting an alternative business operation. They were advised of the difficulty of grant aiding this sector unless the project is export based.
