Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Marine Rescue Service.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

156 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding the provision of premises for the IMES at Tramore, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9815/99]

The Irish Marine Emergency Service (IMES) Coastal Unit at Tramore has a premises which is located adjoining the former coastguard premises at Tramore. I have announced a programme of construction, renewal and refurbishment for the coastal unit stations which has commenced this year. Tramore station house will be assessed by the Office of Public Works under this programme and its upgrading included.

However, consideration has also been given to obtaining an alternative premises. In this regard, I have been in touch with my colleague, the Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, about the possibility of accommodating the unit in the adjoining former coastguard premises at Tramore, provided it is suitable and available.
