Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Transmission Signals.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

206 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when RTE will arrange for reception to be improved in the west of Ireland, particularly north Mayo; the reason negotiations for a mast have not been completed after more than a year; and when the population of this area will be given the same treatment as other subscribers. [15919/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 456 and 457 on 20 Aibreán 1999. As I indicated in that reply, RTE is aware that reception of its services in the north Mayo region is inadequate and that a transmitter site had been purchased for which RTE had sought planning permission. I understand that the grant of planning permission is still awaited.

The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTE authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.
