Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

117 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will receive payment of reactor and extensification grants. [15729/99]

The district veterinary office has been in ongoing contact with the herdowner since the herd breakdown with brucellosis in mid 1998 in an effort to finalise grant categorisation. To date all of the information required to determine grant category under the brucellosis eradication scheme grant arrangements in place for all breakdowns occurring on or after 27 April 1998 has not been furnished by the herdowner, necessitating further follow-up by the district veterinary office. When the ongoing examination of available information on the movement of eligible animals into and out of the herd during the review period is concluded, the grant categorisation process will be finalised. The district veterinary office is endeavouring to conclude the examination at an early date.

In accordance with the regulations, extensification premium is payable to all herdowners where the stocking density of the holding is less than 1.4 livestock units (lus) per hectare. The person named lodged an 1998 area aid application for 123.92 hectares. He applied for, and was paid on 128 suckler cows, under the 1998 suckler cow premium scheme i.e. 128 lus. He also applied for 90 animals under the ten month special beef premium scheme, three were deleted as innocent errors and six were rejected for lost tags but counted for stocking density. The remaining 81 animals were paid special beef premium (87 x 0.6 = 52.2 lus). A further application was received for 59 animals under the 22 month special beef premium scheme, 23 of those were deleted as innocent errors and the remaining 36 were paid special beef premium (36 x 0.6 = 21.6 lus). The total lus of 201.8 divided by the hectares of 123.92 gives a stocking density of 1.62 lus per hectare. As the stocking density is not less than 1.4 lus/hectare the person named has no entitlement to 1998 extensification premium.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

118 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) is not receiving ewe premia and headage. [15730/99]

The person named was paid the first advance of the 1999 ewe premium on 16 June 1999. Payments under the 1999 sheep headage scheme are scheduled to commence next September.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

119 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive a 1998 cattle headage payment. [15731/99]

The area aid unit has received the applicant's reply and maps to previous correspondence as mentioned in my reply of 23 March 1999. One of the parcels which the applicant is claiming is overlapping with a parcel being claimed by another herdowner. The applicant has been written to concerning the resolution of this problem and a reply is awaited.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

121 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a farm retirement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick. [15746/99]

Payment of the pension in this case commenced in May 1999, retrospective to 24 September 1998, the date of valid application. The pension will be paid monthly for the full ten year maximum period of the pension under the scheme.

Ulick Burke

Ceist:

122 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a 1998 sheep premium grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15799/99]

The herdowner lodged an appeal on 13 January 1999 concerning his 1998 ewe application. Appeals are dealt with in the order in which they are received and require individual examination. This appeal will be examined shortly and the herdowner will be notified of the outcome.
