Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

507 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the inadequacies of the facilities in the North-Western Health Board health centre in Gweedore, County Donegal; and the plans, if any, he has to upgrade and extend this centre. [18038/99]

The provision and maintenance of health centres in the Gweedore area is the statutory responsibility of the North-Western Health Board. Financial support, from my Department for such projects, is given on the basis of the available resources, the competing demands on those resources and the priority the relevant health board attaches to the project in question.

The North-Western Health Board has advised me that it is aware of the need for the development of facilities at the health centre in Gweedore and that an architect has been appointed and that plans are being drawn up for an extension to the health centre. The board has identified this project as a priority for the year 2000. The plans are being discussed and agreed with the doctors. Financial support for this project will be considered next year in light of the available funding, the priority the North-Western Health Board attaches to the project and the competing demands on the funds.
