Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

779 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department disposed of any assets or property with a value of or greater than £200,000 between 1987 and 1992 inclusive without going to public tender; if so, if he will give details and circumstances of these sales; and the reason for the decision not to go to public tender. [18071/99]

With one possible exception, no area of my Department disposed of assets or property with a value of, or greater than, £200,000 between the dates in question without going to public tender. In the case of the prisons, it would not be possible to provide the information required without diverting staff from other important work and this could not, I feel, be justified. If, however, the Deputy is concerned about any particular disposal, perhaps he could write to me and I will endeavour to obtain the facts about that case.
