Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Service Management Act.

John Bruton

Ceist:

788 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has used section 12 of the Public Service Management Act, 1997, which allows for appropriate action to be taken on cross Departmental issues in a structured way; and the areas of work of his Department which are touching on the work of other Departments in respect of which cross Departmental arrangements might be appropriate. [17369/99]

While there are areas where the work of other Departments and offices touch in various ways on that of my Department, as set out in the Department's Statement of Strategy, 1998-2001, because of the degree of co-operation in place under existing arrangements, it has not been deemed necessary or appropriate, to date, to make an order under section 12 of the Public Service Management Act, 1997 in relation to any cross-departmental matters. This includes the area of EU co-funding, where the Department has extensive contact with other Government Departments and these contacts are formally structured under the terms of the various operational programmes agreed with the EU Commission.
