789 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will give a breakdown of the £13 million spent on each swimming pool over the past decade; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18487/99]
790 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the amount of money which will be available for the renovation and refurbishment of swimming pools over the next three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18486/99]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 789 and 790 together.
Twenty seven local authority swimming pools received approval for total grant aid in excess of £13 million towards refurbishment works carried out over the 11 year period from 1988 to date. Details of this expenditure is set out in the following tabular statement.
I recently announced that I have secured £45 million for the swimming pool programme over the next three years, commencing in 2000, of which a minimum of £30 million has been earmarked for expenditure on refurbishment of existing local authority pools. This represents an increase of five times the current level of funding, from the current level of £3 million per annum to £15 million per annum over that three year period.
