Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Second Level Schools.

John Bruton

Ceist:

807 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a second level school in Ratoath, County Meath, where the population increase will warrant its development. [17352/99]

My Department has no plans at present to provide a second level school in Ratoath. Pupils from this area mainly attend post primary schools in Dunshaughlin and Ashbourne and, to a lesser extent, in Navan. My officials are satisfied that these schools can cater adequately at present for the demand for second level places in the general area.

I am aware, however, that substantial housing developments are in progress and planned for Ratoath. The planning section of my Department will keep these developments under close review. Should the need for additional second level facilities arise at a future date, the question of extending existing second level schools in the immediate catchment area, or providing a separate school in Ratoath, will be considered.

Ceist:

808 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in regard to the building of new second level facilities in Trim, County Meath. [17353/99]

Tenders for the construction of a new second level facility at Trim are currently being invited. The closing date for the receipt of tenders is 8 November 1999. Thereafter, a tender report will be submitted to my Department for examination.
