Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Capitation Grants.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

889 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when Two Mile national school, County Kildare, will qualify for a grant for a school secretary and caretaker; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17815/99]

Since its introduction in 1992, the scheme of additional capitation grants to primary schools which are not already in receipt of clerical and caretaking assistance on a full or part-time basis under a scheme introduced in 1978-79, has been expanded in line with PESP/PCW undertakings. The current position is that all primary schools with 195 or more pupils are eligible for assistance under the scheme.

With effect from January next, all primary schools with 100 or more pupils will be eligible for a grant of £30 per pupil towards secretarial and caretaking services under this scheme. Based on its enrolment of 163 pupils in September 1998, Scoil Ursula, Two Mile House, will be one of the schools to be included from January next. My officials will be writing to Scoil Ursula and all other qualifying schools over the next couple of months confirming their inclusion, and setting out the details of the scheme.
