Vol. 508 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

42 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Health and Children the agreement, or otherwise, reached by the three children's hospitals in Dublin in terms of developing a joint strategy; the role he is playing in this process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18235/99]

A report of the review of the role of the three Dublin children's hospitals in the delivery and organisation of paediatric services was presented to my Department in 1998. This report contained a number of proposals, one of which was the setting up of a joint council comprising members of the three hospitals which would identify specific actions needed to facilitate necessary change and development. Dr. Helen Burke has been appointed to chair the new Council for Children's Hospital Care and the first meeting of the council has recently taken place. My Department has provided the necessary funding to support the council's establishment and will continue to liaise closely with the council in the early stages of its establishment.
