Vol. 508 No. 3

Written Answers - Rehabilitation Programme.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

240 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will have arrangements made for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny, undergoing an intensive rehabilitation programme at a centre in Bristol, to remain at the centre for the remainder of the programme [19040/99]

The provision of services for people with physical and sensory disabilities, including the type of arrangement referred to in the Deputy's question is a matter for the relevant health board. I understand that the South-Eastern Health Board is making arrangements to have services provided at local level for the individual concerned and that the service input will be the same as that being provided in Bristol. In addition, as part of its service provision, the board will be seeking expert advice from the National Rehabilitation Hospital in relation to the treatment provided for the person concerned. I understand the board expects to have these services in place shortly and, in the circumstances, does not intend to continue supporting the person's stay at the centre in Bristol beyond that time.
