Vol. 509 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

350 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the need for the provision of an additional special needs class at Scoil Bríde national school, Leixlip, County Kildare; and when sanction will issue. [20428/99]

My Department has not received an application for a special needs class from the school in question.

However, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department recently sanctioned a resource teacher post to Scoil Bhríde to assist in the enrolment of pupils with special needs attending this school. The post was sanctioned on a shared basis with two local schools and is based in Scoil Bhríde.

Ceist:

351 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the need for a resource teacher in St. Brigid's national school, Celbridge, County Kildare, and for the provision of an assistant for a person (details supplied); and if he will sanction the appointments without further delay. [20429/99]

My Department's inspectorate has been asked to forward a report on the special educational needs of pupils enrolled in the school referred to by the Deputy.

My Department will be in contact with the school authorities regarding this matter in the very near future.
