Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Staff.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

418 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the qualifications for recruitment to clerical posts at local authority level will be amended to provide some exemptions from the present educational clauses to applicants who were former permanent local authority employees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21395/99]

The qualifications for the office of clerical officer in a local authority, which were declared in June 1997, contain a provision which enables candidates who have had at least two years previous experience in a permanent and pensionable office of clerical officer, clerk/typist – clerical duties – clerk typist – typing and clerical duties – or clerk/typist under a local authority or health board in the State to enter a competition for that office without the need to satisfy educational requirements. I have no proposals to amend this provision.
