Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

136 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the deplorable condition of the slipway at Castletownshend, County Cork; his views on whether the slipway is of major importance for all water related activities in the harbour; and if he will approve funding for the improvement, repair and extension of the slipway. [21512/99]

The slipway at Castletownshend is owned by Cork County Council and responsibility for its repair and maintenance rests primarily with the local authority. The county council has not, to date, put any proposals to my Department for financial assistance for improvement or extension of the slipway. Any such proposals would be considered in the context of available funding and overall priorities for works at harbours and landing places.
