129 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on the proposed programme of restoration of the Asgard as outlined by the Asgard Restoration Project Limited; if she is in favour of the programme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21926/99]

I refer the Deputy to my answer to Priority Questions Nos. 1 and 2 of 7 October, 1999 in this regard.

My role in the vessel's future at this point is strictly confined to deciding the issue in relation to the application for a licence to alter it under the National Monuments Acts. In this context I met representatives of theAsgard Restoration Project on 10 October 1999, at which they out lined their position. I will take their views into consideration together with the advice of the National Museum of Ireland and the Heritage Council in arriving at a considered decision on the application for a licence.
