Vol. 510 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

140 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Education and Science when the 25 psychologists proposed to be employed in 1999 under the national educational psychological service will be in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21954/99]

Interviews for the additional 25 psychologists are currently being held by the Civil Service Commission and should be completed by the 8 November. The processing of all applications post-interview is a matter solely for the Commission and my Department is, therefore, not in a position to give a definitive reply on this matter.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

141 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a number of psychologists employed by his Department on a one or three year contract basis are deemed ineligible to apply for permanent positions in view of the fact a number of those concerned have attained a recognised postgraduate qualification in educational psychology from an Irish university; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21955/99]

The recruitment of professional staff to the Department of Education and Science is the responsibility of the Civil Service Commission, which manages all processes involved in competitions such as the recent one for psychologists to be employed in the national educational psychological service.
