Vol. 510 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Development Plans.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

146 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 14 of 14 October 1999 in relation to the responsibility of his Department in monitoring local authority development plans, the monitoring which occurred; the meetings held; the assessment which took place in relation to the proposed integrated housing development at Ballyowen Lane, Lucan, County Dublin (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21965/99]

Officials from the planning section of my Department meet at regular intervals during the year with representatives from South Dublin County Council to monitor major housing developments in this area for the purpose of assessing the need for school accommodation. These meetings with my Department do not involve assessment of the county councils decision in respect of the type of housing schemes to be provided.

The proposed integrated housing development referred to by the Deputy would have been included in any overall assessment of new housing developments in the Lucan area and their implication on the capacity of existing schools in the area.
