Vol. 510 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

30 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the steps, if any, she is taking to ensure that there will be a comprehensive integrated ticketing system for commuters between the different CIÉ companies. [20825/99]

I support the concept of integrated ticketing. Work is currently under way by a committee chaired by my Department to make recommendations on an appropriate system for Dublin, taking account of the costs and benefits involved. I expect its report with recommendations within the next few months.

It will be necessary to ensure that any system will be flexible enough to allow for the participation of all the CIE companies and other public transport operators, including a possible private operator of the light rail system under a public private partnership.
