Vol. 510 No. 1

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

68 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when work permits will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who has complied with all the requirements of her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22010/99]

I understand that in this case my Department was notified by the Garda Síochána that a number of illegal immigrants had been found by them during a visit to the premises of the employer in question. Accordingly my Department consulted with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform in relation to the case.

That Department has now advised that it would be opposed to the issue of work permits in respect of those persons who were there illegally when the Garda visited but would not have any objection to the issuing of work permits to other persons.

My Department has now advised the proprietor concerned accordingly.
