201 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the plans, if any, he has to introduce a labelling system for the presence of genetically modified products in animal feeds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22685/99]
The EU Commission is drawing up proposals on animal feed which will include requirements concerning GMO labelling. It is expected that these will be submitted to the Council of Ministers in the near future. I will be very supportive of EU wide legislation on the assessment, authorisation, marketing and labelling of GMO feed, especially in the context where a significant level of our animal feed ingredients are imported.
