Figures for the level of the national debt are published on an annual basis. At year end 1998 the national debt stood at IR£29,541 million.
The year on year change, over the last five years, in the national debt is set out in tabular form below. Movements in this regard reflect the budget balance each year and other factors such as currency movements.
