Vol. 510 No. 3

Written Answers. - Motor Vehicle Regulations.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

104 Ms Shortall asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment further to Parliamentary Question No. 116 of 23 February 1999, her Department's position in relation to the proposed EU directive on the approximation of member states' laws relating to the interior fittings of motor vehicles; the plans, if any, she has in this regard; the timeframe envisaged to amend legislation to eliminate potential hazards of electric windows in cars; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22150/99]

My Department has been supportive of the proposals contained in the draft EU directive referred to by the Deputy. This is still under examination by the Council and the European Parliament. When the directive is adopted, member states will be required to bring into force the measures necessary to comply with its provisions within 12 months after its adoption.
