Written Answers. - Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.
As the Deputy is aware, the criminal injuries compensation scheme is under review in my Department at present. It is intended that the review will be comprehensive, taking into account all relevant questions and situations. Considerable progress has been made in this regard and I expect to receive a report with proposals for changes to the existing scheme shortly.
While the scheme is a non-statutory one, any changes to the scheme, recommended as part of the review, will require the approval of Government and the revised scheme must be laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas.
