Vol. 511 No. 6

Written Answers. - Long Service Increments.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

327 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if retired town clerks of towns with a population of between 9,000 and 15,000 will be included in long service increment benefit relative to their pensions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25332/99]

The PCW restructuring pay deal concluded for town clerks of towns with populations between 9,000 and 15,000 provides that only actual service given at the maximum of the restructured pay scale with effect from 1 June 1997 counts for long service increment purposes. There is no basis, therefore, on which the long service increments may be passed on to the pensions of former town clerks who retired before 1 June 1997 or to the pensions of town clerks who retire after that date without sufficient qualifying service at the maximum of the new scale.
