Vol. 511 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Act.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

326 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make an amendment to the Road Traffic Act, 1961, to implement a system whereby a person who produces documentation for inspection at a Garda station will be issued with a certificate to that effect in view of the fact that the recording of this has given rise to dispute on occasion. [25331/99]

Under the Road Traffic Act, 1961, it is a matter for the person who produces a driving licence or an insurance certificate for inspection at a Garda station to show that such production has taken place. I understand that where such a presentation of documentation takes place at a Garda station, this is also recorded in a register. There are no current proposals to amend the provisions in the Road Traffic Act, 1961, in relation to this matter.
