Vol. 512 No. 5

Written Answers. - Beef Markets.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

77 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of new markets established for beef in the past two years; the value and volume involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26540/99]

Following from the BSE crisis, all of the traditionally important markets for Irish beef have been re-opened. To date, Ireland is exporting beef to some 60 countries worldwide. As recently as last month, practical arrangements for the commencement of beef exports to Indonesia were finalised. A substantial lifting of the Russian restrictions was also negotiated in which five counties were derestricted.

The quantities and values, excluding export refunds, of beef exports over the past three years have been as follows:

1996

382,620

IR£646,081,000

1997
