Ceist:517 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will increase the number of house starts for Westport Urban District Council, County Mayo, under the Local Authority Housing Programme 2000-2003 in view of the large volume of people on the housing list. [1118/00]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 516 and 517 together.
The numbers of housing starts allocated to Westport Urban District Council in each of the years from 1990 to 1999 are set out in the following table. The number of housing starts allocated to Westport Urban District Council for the period 2000 to 2003 was determined at 30 units after taking into account the housing needs of the urban council as well as their record of providing houses. The Department's records indicate that a total of 18 houses were completed by the urban council in the period 1996 to 1999. However, the Department will keep the position under review on progress being made by the urban council in implementing the programme of starts it has now been allocated.
