Vol. 513 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mental Health Services.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

105 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of children awaiting an appointment with a psychiatrist in the Southern Health Board region; the average waiting period for this appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2104/00]

The information requested is not collected as a matter of routine by my Department. Accordingly I have asked the chief executive officer of the Southern Health Board to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.

Ceist:

106 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of child psychiatrists employed in the Southern Health Board region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2105/00]

In the Southern Health Board area, the Brothers of Charity and the board jointly provide child and adolescent psychiatry services. The Brothers of Charity employ two consultant child and adolescent psychiatrists and the board employs one. Funding has been made available for the appointment of a further three child and adolescent psychiatrists in the Southern Health Board area.
